Counseling Areas of Focus
Depression
Depression can involve persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or loss of interest in daily activities. These feelings may last weeks or months and interfere with work, relationships, and overall quality of life. Through therapy, clients learn to better understand their symptoms, build coping strategies, and regain a sense of balance and purpose.
Anxiety
Anxiety can affect both the mind and body, leading to excessive worry, tension, or fear that impacts daily functioning. Counseling can help individuals recognize triggers, develop calming techniques, and regain a sense of control.
Trauma
Trauma can result from a wide range of experiences and may continue to affect individuals long after an event has passed. Our trauma-informed counselors use evidence-based approaches to help clients process experiences safely and build resilience.

Therapy Types
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) incorporates techniques used in several traditional psychotherapies to help individuals process distressing memories. ART works by reprogramming how these memories and images are stored in the brain, so they no longer trigger strong emotional or physical reactions.
This approach uses rapid eye movements similar to those that occur during dreaming. While similar techniques are used in other therapies, ART’s structured and directive method often allows for faster results. Many individuals report improvement, or even resolution of concerns, in as few as one to three sessions.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical, goal-oriented approach that helps individuals understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. When facing stress, anxiety, or depression, thought patterns can become unhelpful or overly negative.
CBT focuses on identifying these patterns and replacing them with more balanced, constructive ways of thinking. It is commonly used to address anxiety, depression, stress, and life transitions.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) helps individuals manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and cope with stress in healthier ways. It combines strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with mindfulness and acceptance techniques.
The term “dialectical” refers to balancing acceptance and change, learning to accept yourself while also working toward growth. DBT focuses on four key skill areas:
- Mindfulness: Staying present and aware without judgment
- Emotion Regulation: Managing strong emotions effectively
- Distress Tolerance: Coping with difficult situations in healthy ways
- Interpersonal Effectiveness: Building stronger communication and relationships
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples is an evidence-based approach developed by Dr. Sue Johnson. It is grounded in attachment science, which explores how individuals form emotional bonds in relationships.
EFT helps couples move out of cycles of conflict and disconnection and toward greater emotional safety, understanding, and connection. The process provides a clear path for building stronger, more secure relationships.
Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT)
Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) is an extension of EFT for individuals. It is an attachment-based approach that helps people understand their emotions as a source of insight and change.
EFIT supports individuals in developing a stronger sense of self and building healthier relationships. It is effective in addressing anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship concerns.
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, client-centered approach that helps individuals explore and strengthen their motivation for change. Rather than directing clients, the therapist guides conversations that help uncover personal goals, values, and reasons for change.
This approach recognizes that people often feel conflicted about change. MI helps individuals resolve that ambivalence, build confidence, and take meaningful steps forward.
Strengths-Based Approach
A strengths-based approach focuses on identifying and building upon the abilities, qualities, and resources you already possess. Instead of focusing solely on challenges, this approach highlights resilience, skills, values, relationships, and past successes.
Through this process, individuals gain confidence and develop practical strategies for navigating current challenges by using the strengths they already have.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
TF-CBT is an evidence-based therapy designed to help children and adolescents ages 3-18 process and heal from trauma. It combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with trauma-sensitive interventions to reduce symptoms, build coping skills, and support emotional regulation.
