Social Work Scholarships and Internships

Catholic Charities North Dakota is proud to be able to offer two Hassing Social Work Scholarships of $1,000 per year towards a bachelor’s degree in social work.

The Objectives of this scholarship are:

  1. 1. To draw attention to the unmet social needs of rural North Dakota
  2. 2. To assure that the value system of the Catholic Church (Christian values) is present in the social welfare system in North Dakota
  3. 3. To honor the patrons of this scholarship, Will and Mabel Hassing, who identified with both Christian values and the need for social services; they also lived their lives in rural North Dakota

The Responsibilities/Criteria of the student are:

  1. 1. In the process of completing the junior year and understand that the scholarship payment will be made if the student is attending school full time
  2. 2. Have been formally accepted and enrolled into the School of Social Work for purposes of earning a bachelor’s degree
  3. 3. Hold promise in the field as indicated by:
    1. a. Involvement in professional activities
    2. b. Academic achievement sufficient to be awarded a BSW
    3. c. Are planning to practice in the field of social services in North Dakota
  4. 4. Have resided in the state of North Dakota for at least four years
  5. 5. Have an understanding and acceptance of Catholic moral teaching
  6. 6. If the recipient leaves school prior to the specified time, he or she will repay the pro-rated portion of the tuition and books reimbursement on the date of termination

The Procedures for applying for this scholarship are:

  1. 1. Fill out the application form
  2. 2. Provide three letters of reference, two should be outside of school (for example, clergy, present/former employer, friend, etc.)
  3. 3. The application form will be available on this website on February 1 and the deadline is April 15 for the upcoming academic year
  4. 4. CCND’s Board of Directors will review the applicants and make their selections at their May Board Meeting
  5. 5. Applicants will be notified in June as to whether they were awarded a scholarship
  6. 6. Payments to the college/university are sent out in June or July for the upcoming academic year
