National Adoption Day Celebrated

National Adoption Day was Saturday, November 18th and this year adoptions were finalized in Fargo at the Cass County Courthouse as well as in Grand Forks at the Grand Forks County Courthouse. National Adoption Day is a collective national effort to raise awareness of the more than 110,000 children in foster care waiting to find permanent, loving families. This annual, one-day event has made the dreams of thousands of children come true by working with policymakers, practitioners, and advocates to finalize adoptions that create and celebrate adoptive families.

In total, National Adoption Day has helped nearly 65,000 children move from foster care to a forever family. In 2016, more than 4,700 children were adopted by their forever families during the 17th annual National Adoption Day celebration in 400 cities across the United States.

In North Dakota, National Adoption Day honors all children who finalize their adoptions on this day through the Adults Adopting Special Kids (AASK) Program and through the Pregnancy, Parenting, and Adoption (PPAS) Program. In Fargo, there were 9 children adopted into 7 families and in Grand Forks, 8 children were adopted into 5 families. Congratulations to each of these families!
