Sister Mary Michael, Sister Josephine, and Sister Amal Grace received Catholic Charities North Dakota’s Caritas Award on May 8th. They were recognized for their outreach at Spirit of Life Church in Mandan that shows God’s love and mercy to all those in need. There is a great need in Mandan and surrounding areas to help those who are homeless or less fortunate. Spirit of Life has truly been able to help fill some of that need with the help of the Carmelite Sisters.
As part of their work and ministry the Carmelite Sisters have been able to help establish a daily meal for those who need to be fed. The sisters also work diligently with many volunteers who come down to help distribute food. They are a crucial part of how much more the outreach program has been able to help their community and beyond.
The Caritas Luncheon was a great success as nearly 150 people attended and the lunch featured a special menu of Indian food from the Sisters. Msgr. Gion gave a wonderful and funny introduction of the Sisters sharing the story of how they came to Spirit of Life. Bishop Kagan presented them with their Caritas Awards before Sister Mary Michael made an acceptance speech on behalf of the Teresian Carmelite Sisters at Spirit of Life Convent in Mandan, ND.
