Nonprofit day at the State Capitol

This February our Bismarck office participated in Nonprofit Day at the State Capitol.  It was a good experience all around.  We had a lot of traffic at our both and it was wonderful to hear that people have heard of us.

Bishop Ryan's "Santa "Shop"

Thank you to the Bishop Ryan elementary and preschool students and families! Through their annual "Santa Shop" students could 'shop' for family members, with the families making freewill donations for the gifts.  This year, Bishop Ryan raised $1,800 for charity through this program, and chose Catholic Charities North Dakota to receive the funds for its pregnancy, parenting, and adoption services!

Nativity school makes blankets

Thank you to the 5th grade class at Nativity School in Fargo!  Each year Nativity includes social teaching in its classes, with the fifth graders studying the life and dignity of the human person. As part of their social awareness efforts, the 5th grade class prepared and provided Catholic Charities with handmade baby blankets just before the Christmas holiday. Thank you so much to the 5th grade class at Nativity for helping the new babies served by Catholic Charities' pregnancy, parenting, and adoption services!

December 15, 2016 - SCHEELS in Minot

Since its beginning in 1902, Scheels has believed in giving back to the communities in which they operate. For the past five years, one of the ways employees of the Minot Scheels store have given back to our community is at their annual Scheels Day of Giving event. Catholic Charities North Dakota was blessed once again this year to be included as one of the 60 organizations to receive a gift.

On behalf of Catholic Charities North Dakota, new guardianship worker Charley Squires received a $500 check from Kevin Mortensen, Store Lead and Eric Grund, Donations Manager. We would like to thank Scheels and its Minot employees for their generosity to not only Catholic Charities and the people in need we serve, but also to the whole Minot community.

September 22-24, 2016 - LATOR GATOR SALE

This is the third year of a growing kids consignment sale held two times a year in Bismarck, every April and September. The first night is for “First-time Moms” either pregnant or with children 12 months and younger, including of course adoption. The new moms can also bring in a guest such as their own mom, to help with shopping.  If they cannot afford tickets, local businesses can help by donating tickets and receiving advertising.

The weekend event also includes a special “Charity Night" where a $5 admission is charged that goes to a local nonprofit. This fall, Catholic Charities North Dakota was chosen. The next sale is April 27-30, 2017. People can bring their slightly used kids items beforehand, and after the sale Lator Gator sends them part of the proceeds. Online registration for sellers is already available, and this past sale had over 100 consigners, and 18,000 items!

Educational Service Projects

Catholic Charities Image (March 14).jpg

Last spring Catholic Charities North Dakota's Director of Development and Community Relations, Chad Prososki, worked with a small committee to start a series of educational learning projects. They hosted the first events on a Tuesday evening in Fargo, but hope to expand to other places this fall.

Plans include bringing in local speakers to present briefly on topics including child trafficking, end of life, and immigration then offering hands-on projects such as creating cards or care packages for those in need in our communities. If you are interested in getting involved to help launch this idea or would like to learn more about future events please email Chad at or call (701) 235-4457.
